One More Chance: Perfect Your Project!

The Final Poetry Project Presentations are scheduled as follows:


Periods 1 and 4: Wednesday, February 15, 2012
Period 3A: Thursday, February 16, 2012.


The presentation should be formatted as follows:


1.  A brief explanation of why your chose the poet and a present his/her biography.
2.  Read and present the analysis of one (for people doing one author) or two (for people doing two authors) poems written by the poet(s).
3.  Read and present the analysis of your own poem. 
4.  Conclude your presentation with why it was rewarding (or not) to study this particular author. 


I recommend using notecards to cover all of the necessary content; the SMART Board will be plugged into the computer, so that you can navigate through your glog, blog, movie, or PowerPoint. I look forward to your presentations! If you have any questions, comment to the post or e-mail me.

Ahhhh the Scores!

The Quarter Two F.A.S.T. Scores are as follows:


Period 1: 66% Proficient
This is a 5% increase from the Quarter One F.A.S.T.


The indicators the class need to improve upon are: 

1.1.2: The student will use during-reading strategies appropriate to both the text and purpose for reading by visualizing, making connections, and using fix-up strategies such as re-reading, questioning, and summarizing.
2.2.5: The student will use suitable traditional and electronic resources to refine presentations and edit texts for effective and appropriate use of language and conventions.
3.1.8: The student will expand sentences by positioning phrases and clauses to accomplish a purpose.



Period 3A: 77% Advanced
This is a 2% increase from Quarter One F.A.S.T.


The indicators the class need to improve upon are:

1.1.2: The student will use during-reading strategies appropriate to both the text and purpose for reading by visualizing, making connections, and using fix-up strategies such as re-reading, questioning, and summarizing.
3.1.6: The student will compound various sentence elements—subjects, predicates, modifiers, phrases, and clauses—to link or contrast related ideas.



Period 4: 66% Proficient 
This is a 2% increase from Quarter One F.A.S.T. 


The indicators the class need to improve upon are:

Proficient or Advanced? YOU decide!

Tomorrow (Friday, January 20, 2012), we will be taking the F.A.S.T. Assessment for quarter two and I know you all will do well! The goal is to increase your individual score and prove your proficiency in reading, writing, and grammar based on English 10's high-impact indicators. So, come to school well-rested, with your belly full (eat breakfast), and prepared to test! Visit www.mdk12.org and take some practice tests tonight.

The project required them to: identify their primary learning style, pick a partner, research more information about adjectives and adverbs, and then present the lesson in a creative and engaging manner. As I suspected, the majority of my students are visual learners; however, their projects incorporated different learning styles that work for them. There are many projects that included games, etc. I truly enjoyed them.
